Discover the versatility of batwing sleeves with this pattern guide! You’ll first learn how to turn a dartless bodice into a dartless kimono (or grown-on sleeve) block, and then create four stunning designs with batwing sleeves using this new pattern block.
There is only one basic batwing sleeve shape among the designs, a loose-fitting batwing blouse. The other designs take full advantage of the volume that this sleeve type offers: There’s a maxi sleeve blouse with a hemband detail, a short sleeved wrap dress and a ruffled tent dress that you can also wear with a belt.
You may find that the batwing sleeve construction restricts the arm movement to some degree. So, the garments will be more comfortable to wear if you use stretch fabrics to make them. However, with wider sleeves, woven fabrics work great too.
